It was his parents who had the most influence in steering Scott Goodwin toward a legal career. "My parents told me to become a professional, go to college and become a doctor or lawyer. No one can ever take that degree away from you. Strive to be the best you can be. From as early as I can remember, as early as junior high, I was always engaged in the political process, always questioning the established way of thinking. I always felt the need to champion the underdog", states Goodwin.
Goodwin joined the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association upon passing the bar. "If it wasn't for MTLA, victims of drunk and negligent drivers, and victims of medical errors and product liability would have no rights."

Currently a member of the MTLA executive board, Scott takes great pride in his participation as a seminar speaker, at phone-a-thons, and in political events where MTLA's presence is needed.
Scott Goodwin treats his clients like members of his own family. The Birmingham law firm of Goodwin & Scieszka's motto is "The personal injury attorneys who get personally involved." Says Scott, "We promote a positive force for change."
Frequently, Scott and his partner Jim Scieszka are guest on a radio station where listeners call in and ask questions. Plus, for the last 14 years they have sponsored an annual Law Day with a team of lawyers from all different areas of practice, on hand to assist in providing free legal advice.
Goodwin says, "the most satisfying aspect of being a trial attorney is beating big corporation ad insurance companies who are taking advantage of innocent consumers or victims of negligence."
Scott concludes, "The average person is powerless against these big insurance companies, but knowledge of the law and expertise in my field allow me to balance the scales of justice."
Outside of the practice of law, Goodwin is an avid racquetball player, plays league softball every year, and enjoys traveling and spending time with the most important person in his life, his daughter, Karlee.
