Sylvan Lake Boating Accident Kills 2

by / Monday, 15 July 2013 / Published in Accident News, Maritime Law

An 11-year-old boy was unfortunately killed in a boating accident on Sylvan Lake this last Sunday. The boy and his two sisters were being pulled behind a jet ski in an inner tube. Their father was driving. Another boat crossed their path and collided with the children.

The driver said he was unable to see the children just before the accident occurred.

The two girls, ages 6 and 10, were severely injured. 10-year old Adriana is still being treated at Beaumont Hospital, where she is in critical condition. Sadly, 6-year old Gabrielle died Monday.

Witnesses helped pull the children from the water before the EMS arrived. Alcohol is not considered to have caused the accident.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this terrible incident.

This is a grim reminder that boating can be a dangerous activity and that the utmost care should always be practiced when on the water.

Boaters should remember:

  • Always wear life jackets
  • Avoid drinking alcohol
  • Check and recheck your surroundings for other boats
  • Veer to the right for oncoming traffic
  • Observe local speed limits
  • Know your local lake etiquette
