Scott Goodwin Selected to Super Lawyers’ Top 100 Michigan Lawyers List for 2015

When you’re a lawyer, there are many different areas of law you can choose to practice in. With so many lawyers working in so many different areas of law, coming up with a list of the best lawyers in general for any given state can be a pretty daunting task, but this is exactly what Super Lawyers does every year.

Scott Goodwin was recently chosen to be included on the 2015 Michigan Super Lawyers list. This list includes 100 Michigan attorneys who practice in various areas of law, but two things they all have in common is that they’ve all shown a high degree of excellence in their respective fields and can be hired by the public. This isn’t the first time Scott Goodwin has been recognized by Super Lawyers. He was also included on the 2013 Michigan Super Lawyers list and the 2014 Michigan Super Lawyers list.

Super Lawyers also does lists focusing on more specific areas of law. Since The Law Offices of Goodwin & Scieszka works with people who have been injured by defective products, Super Lawyers also included Scott Goodwin in their lists of the top 50 Michigan consumer lawyers in 2015, 2014, and 2013.

Super Lawyers is a service that rates attorneys with the goal of creating a directory of dependable lawyers people can trust. They rank attorneys who practice in over 70 different areas of law, making it easy for people to find the type of attorney they need to handle their case.

It isn’t easy for a lawyer to be chosen to be included in a Super Lawyers list. Lawyers cannot pay to be included in a list and must be nominated by fellow lawyers, with more weight being given to nominations that come from lawyers outside of the nominee’s own firm. Campaigning for nominations is strictly prohibited and Super Lawyers carefully monitors nominations to watch for strategic nominations.

The number of nominations a lawyer receives doesn’t necessarily guarantee they will make a Super Lawyers list, either. Once the nomination process is over, a team starts researching the nominees, looking at a nominee’s educational background, experience, special honors and awards, special certifications, activity in the Bar association, community service, and more. They also keep an eye out for attorneys who might have been overlooked during the nomination process.

After the research stage is complete, candidates go through a peer evaluation process before entering final selection. In the final selection process, the top candidates are divided into four different groups based on firm size and the lawyers with the highest point total in their group are chosen to be included in a Super Lawyers list. When lists are finalized, no more than 5% of all attorneys in a state are represented.
